Grain Cart Yield Check

Enter the cart scale weight, grain moisture, and the area the combine harvested. Yield is corrected to the crop's standard moisture so passes and fields compare fairly.

How the math works

Moisture correction. Wet grain is part water. The calculator converts the scale weight to what it would weigh at the standard moisture: adjusted lb = weight × (100 − harvest moisture) ÷ (100 − standard moisture). Corn is sold and compared at 15.5% moisture and 56 lb per bushel. Soybeans use 13% and 60 lb, wheat 13.5% and 60 lb, grain sorghum 14% and 56 lb.

Area. Acres = width (ft) × length (ft) ÷ 43,560. With rows, width = rows × row spacing (in) ÷ 12, so 12 rows on 30-inch spacing is 30 ft.

Dry grain. Grain drier than standard is adjusted up the same way, which keeps yield comparisons fair. An elevator usually won't pay for that extra weight, and this tool leaves out handling shrink, so expect settlement bushels to run slightly lower.
